Fluid therapy rate calculator
Estimate a patient's fluid plan: maintenance plus dehydration deficit, the hourly rate, and the drip rate for your giving set. A planning aid — adjust for ongoing losses and cardiac/renal status.
Frequently asked
How do you calculate a dog's fluid rate?
Maintenance is about 60 mL/kg/day. The dehydration deficit (mL) is % dehydration × body weight (kg) × 10. Add them and divide over the correction period to get mL/hr; multiply by the giving-set drop factor and divide by 60 for gtt/min.
Is this a substitute for clinical judgment?
No. It's a planning estimate. Always adjust for the individual patient, ongoing losses, and comorbidities.
